McKinley Explorer Dining
Tasty eats complete the experience of riding on the McKinley Explorer, a premier Alaska dome rail service that travels between Anchorage, Talkeetna, and Denali National Park. Breakfast and lunch are offered on both northbound and southbound routes. Breakfast is served on the first segment to Talkeetna, and lunch is served on the second segment.
Signature Alaskan dishes star on the McKinley Explorer breakfast menu. These include a house-smoked wild salmon and cream cheese bagel, Classic Rail Breakfast, and Reindeer Sausage Breakfast Burrito. For those with a taste for simpler morning meals, a warm bowl of oats or a granola parfait hit the spot. There are also specialty morning cocktails for an indulgent vacation treat.
Lunchtime brings a diverse menu that includes classics like a cheeseburger or turkey club and more locally inspired entrees. Among those are the Alaska Seafood Roll and a healthful vegan soup de jour. The lunchtime dessert menu, with its Fruits of the Forest pie and decadent cakes and sundaes, entices most passengers. Lunchtime libations include beer, wine, juices, sodas, and coffee or tea. Dishes that can be made gluten free are indicated on the menu.
Meals are served in the dining room on the train cars' lower level, with passengers cycling through in two or three scheduled seatings. See this page for a sample McKinley Explorer dining room menu.
Because the McKinley Explorer operates on a slightly different schedule than other Alaska train services and completes its daily runs at 5:00 PM, dinner is not served. To satisfy those late afternoon food cravings, the dome bar offers snack mixes, small bites, and sweet treats for purchase after 1:00 PM. The Alaska Smoked Salmon Dip is a popular pick to share with your travel companions. See this page for a sample Upper Dome Menu.
