Overview
It is a relatively short trip from Denali Park to Talkeetna, short and particularly comfortable when made via the private McKinley Explorer sightseeing train. After pulling out of the Denali Depot at 9:15 AM, the train swiftly enters the high plateau of Broad Pass. Car managers provide commentary and point out particularly beautiful upcoming views along the way. The four-hour trip concludes in Talkeetna after crossing the soaring Hurricane Gulch bridge and paralleling the Susitna River for several scenic miles.
A short and comfortable ride via private sightseeing train.
McKinley Explorer train cars have two levels. All passenger seating is in on the upper deck. Those seats are equipped with footrests and fold-down tray tables. Large curved dome windows run the entire length of the car, providing beautiful wide-open views of the passing landscape from every seat.
On the first level, passengers have access to an observation lounge and private dining area. Breakfast and lunch are served on this route. The breakfast menu includes local favorites like the Reindeer Sausage Breakfast Burrito and Alaska King Crab Benedict. The lunch menu includes a selection of sandwiches, soups, and fresh salads, along with several desserts. Passengers can expect to pay $9 to $17 for breakfast, and $12 to $16 for lunch.
