Welcome to Alaska! Arrive and check into your hotel.
Ease into your Alaska vacation with an guided bike tour on the Coastal Trail. Moose and bear sightings are quite common on this popular Anchorage trail with views of the Cook Inlet and western Alaska Range. In the afternoon spend some time taking in Arctic science, Alaska Native cultures, and art exhibits at the renowned Anchorage Museum.
It's a bucket list Alaska day: You're heading across the Cook Inlet to go bear viewing. Your destination depends on the month you're traveling. In July expect to go to Katmai National Park to see the bears of Brooks Falls. Late summer visitors will take a full-day bear viewing trip to either Chinitna Bay or Crescent Lake in Lake Clark National Park. All trips include a roundtrip flight from Anchorage.
Head to the historic Anchorage rail depot this morning to catch the train to Whittier. You'll ride along the entire Turnagain Arm, a scenic waterway bordered by steep cliffsides and glacially carved mountains. The train arrives in time to catch the 26 Glacier Cruise for six hours of glacier and marine wildlife viewing in the calm waters of Prince William Sound. Once you return to the harbor, settle in for a late evening train ride back to Anchorage.
Till now you've seen glaciers from a distance, today you'll take a walk on one. Your full-day Matanuska Glacier tour takes you by van into the beautiful Matanuska Valley and includes two hours trekking the glacier with an experienced guide. Enjoy a final night in Anchorage.
