Trip Overview
As one Alaska journey ends (in this case a cruise coming from Vancouver), another can begin (thanks to this eight-day land package). The trip begins with a day cruise and overnight in Seward, then continues with a transfer via Park Connection Motorcoach to Anchorage. By rental car from Anchorage the itinerary traces a 1,000-mile loop to Denali National Park, Fairbanks, McCarthy/Kennicott, and Palmer. Diverse tours treat travelers to a range of experiences along the way. The trip ends with an overnight at a secluded lodge just an hour's drive from Anchorage. The complete package includes a rental car, accommodations for eight nights, and all tours.
Trip Highlights
- Discover the wild wonders of Denali National Park during a guided bus tour down its remote Park Road.
- Take a casual hike with a naturalist guide through the Denali Park border lands.
- Stay in a wilderness lodge in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.
- Learn about quintessential Alaskan pastimes like bush flying, mining, mushing, and fishing on a Fairbanks riverboat tour.
- Transfer from Seward to Anchorage by Park Connection Motorcoach, then head out on your own by rental car.
Why Pick This Trip
Rather than taking an escorted post-cruise tour, this land package gives you the freedom to discover more of Alaska on your own and away from crowds. You'll visit beloved destinations like Denali National Park, along with many that lie farther afield: Delta Junction, Copper Center, McCarthy, Eureka. The trip pairs perfectly with a Vancouver to Seward cruise to give you the richest, most eclectic Alaska experience.

Your post-cruise trip begins back on the water today, this time aboard a stable catamaran bound for Kenai Fjords National Park. The day cruise leaves Resurrection Bay and points west into waters you've not sailed yet, including the serene Aialik Bay where you'll have up-close views of one or more tidewater glaciers. Overnight Seward.
You'll transfer to Anchorage by the Park Connection Motorcoach this morning, arriving in downtown by the early afternoon. From here you'll pick up your rental car.
This afternoon, stop by the Alaska Native Heritage Center to learn about the state's rich cultures. Overnight Anchorage.
Hit the highway early this morning, you're on your way to Denali National Park. You'll drive about 230 miles north, passing through small towns like Willow, Trapper Creek, and Cantwell on the way. If the weather is clear, keep an eye out for Denali views at the Denali Viewpoint South.
This evening, learn much more about the Denali area on a hike near the park entrance with a knowledgeable naturalist guide. Overnight Denali.
You'll travel into Denali National Park today, journeying by bus down the Park Road. With the driver-guide's narration enriching the day, enjoy views of wildlife and the park's evolving landscapes. Overnight Denali.
Continue your road trip north this morning, covering 120 miles or so to Alaska's largest northern town. You'll learn much more about Fairbanks, plus some quintessential Alaskan activities, on a sternwheeler tour on the Chena River this afternoon. Overnight Fairbanks.
Settle in for a day of driving through some of Alaska's most diverse and dynamic landscapes. You'll drive the Richardson Highway along the Tanana River through Delta Junction, home to the Delta Bison Sanctuary. Once you've reached Copper Center you'll turn east to the small town of Chinitna and the 60-mile gravel McCarthy Road into Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Once you've reached the end of the road, you'll transfer to a lodge shuttle for the final five miles to the historic mining town of Kennicott. Overnight Kennicott.
Join your guide for a half-day hike up and onto Root Glacier. This afternoon, explore the Kennecott Mines National Historic Landmark or take the lodge shuttle down the road to visit nearby McCarthy. Overnight Kennicott.
This morning you'll retrace the highway heading north out of the McCarthy/Kennicott area before turning at Glennallen onto your final (and perhaps most scenic) stretch of driving. Like everywhere in Alaska, the landscape constantly evolves as you move through it. Taiga gives way to densely forested valleys, glassy alpine lakes to silty glacial rivers. Take time for photos of the Matanuska Glacier before finishing your drive at the Alaska Glacier Lodge. Final overnight in Palmer.
