Trip Overview

Glimpse the wilder side of Denali National Park on this five-night Alaska travel package. The trip features two thrilling excursions, a flightseeing trip with a glacier landing in the Alaska Range and a raft trip down the Nenana River. It also includes an overnight at a mountain view lodge in the small town of Talkeetna, and two full nights just outside the entrance to Denali National Park. Travel between destinations is by railroad and motorcoach. The trip starts and ends in Anchorage.

Fly into Anchorage's Ted Stevens International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Explore Anchorage at your leisure. Overnight Anchorage.

This morning board the train at the Anchorage Depot. The route snakes between the Chugach Mountains and Knik River, gradually arching west toward the Alaska Range. When the weather is clear, some of the train's best mountain views emerge just before you pull into Talkeetna.

You're in store for a bucket-list-worthy tour this afternoon. From the Talkeetna Airport you'll fly in a plane with an experienced backcountry pilot to Denali and the mammoth mountains that surround it. The adventure culminates with a glacier landing. Overnight Talkeetna.

Take some time to wander through quaint downtown Talkeetna this morning, making sure to visit the Denali National Park Ranger Station. All climbers attempting to summit Denali must first check in here, hence the town's nickname, the Gateway to Denali.

You'll continue to the Denali Park area by train. This evening, it's off to the Nenana River for your scenic three-hour rafting trip. Overnight Denali.

Today you'll venture deep within Denali National Park via its single road. With the help of your guide's keen eyes, there is a good chance you'll see much of the park's legendary wildlife: Grizzly bears, Dall sheep, caribou, moose, and possibly even foxes and wolves. Overnight Denali.

Bid farewell to Denali National Park as you make your return trip to Anchorage on the Park Connection Motorcoach. In the afternoon, visit the downtown Anchorage Museum. Among its many exhibits, the museum showcases some stunning paintings of Denali and its surrounding landscapes. You'll appreciate them even more now that you've seen it yourself. Final night in Anchorage.
