Alaska Railroad Day Trips
Approachable adventures within an easy day trip from Anchorage thanks to the closeness of Alaska's untamed wilds and access provided by the Alaska Railroad. Here's what we recommend:
- The Alaska Railroad Grandview Valley Day Trip runs a daily from Anchorage to Grandview Pass on the Kenai Peninsula. The scenic ride is perfect for rail enthusiasts.
- The Alaska Railroad Spencer Glacier Day Trip takes the same route, stopping about 10 miles short of Grandview at the Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop. From here you can disembark the train and explore the area on your own or, better yet, take a Spencer Glacier Iceberg Float. The return train to Anchorage comes through the whistlestop around 4:30 PM. There are also fully guided day trips like Spencer Glacier Bears, Trains, and Icebergs that spend a little more time in this remote spot.
- The Alaska Railroad Anchorage to Whittier Roundtrip pairs perfectly with a glacier day cruise in Prince William Sound.
