- Denali State Park Wilderness Hike
Overview
After a few days of viewing Alaska's beautiful landscapes from a distance, this four-hour guided hike gives travelers a chance to experience them up close. The trip starts at the McKinley Princess Lodge where the small hiking group meets their guide for a brief shuttle ride to the trailhead.
A hike as interesting as it is invigorating.
With a hiking guide eager to share their knowledge of the area, the time on the trail is as interesting as it is invigorating. They point out many different features and plants so that guests start to see the unique details within the vast land around them. There are delicate wildflowers and shaded ferns, tall grasses and a buffet of ripening berries come late summer. The area is also abundant with wildlife, their fresh tracks frequently spotted in the soft soil.
After a steady gain of about 1,100 feet, the trail tops out on an alpine plateau with 360-degree views of the Talkeetna and Alaska mountain ranges. On a clear day the trail offers the best views of Denali. Here the group takes a well-deserved break to soak in the vista and enjoy a hearty trail snack. The trip concludes back at the McKinley Princess Lodge after a relaxed descent and return shuttle ride.
