- Knik Helicopter Grand Knik Glacier Landing Tour
Magnificent. Impressive. Remarkable! These are just a few of the rave reviews that this Grand Knik Tour inspires. The excursion starts at the Alaska Glacier Lodge, a quaint wilderness retreat just under an hour by car from Anchorage.
Three remote landings by helicopter.
From the moment you take off the views are breathtaking. Alpine gives way to forested mountainsides and the winding Knik River below. In open meadows below you might catch a glimpse of grazing moose or even bears, and yet even the chance to spot wildlife is forgotten as the helicopter approaches the mighty Knik, Colony, and Cataract glaciers. Your first remote landing is along the edge of the Knik Glacier at Lake George.
From here you'll climb aboard again, this time bound for a high alpine landing site. The entire sweeping panorama is laid out below you from this vantage point. The tour culminates with a third landing on the Knik Glacier itself. Over the next 30 minutes your guide leads you on a walk among the stunning blue pools and rugged ice features of this ancient glacier. The tour concludes with a return helicopter flight.
More Details
The Knik Helicopter Grand Knik Tour is two hours long and includes three landings. About 45 minutes of the tour is flight time, with the rest spent exploring the alpine and glacier environments on foot at each landing site. Weather in the Chugach Mountains can change quickly, so guests should prepare to be flexible as the tour adjusts to suit to the conditions.
Note that this tour also operates in the winter, giving passengers a closer look at a spectacularly snowy Knik landscape.
