- Homestead Aurora Adventure (Winter)
Overview
Seeing the northern lights is often the culmination of a few factors coming together at once: Darkness, clear skies, an active aurora forecast, and a northern setting. This aurora viewing tour puts a few of those in place. It starts with a pickup in Fairbanks, and then a narrated driving tour out of town to the north. The route winds west of the White Mountains and through groves of scraggly spruce, their profiles dark against the night sky.
Northern lights are known to dazzle above this quaint outpost.
After arriving at the Arctic Circle Trading Post in Joy, Alaska, guests unload and eagerly await a light show that will hopefully soon come. The northern lights are known to dazzle above this quaint outpost. Inside it's warm and welcoming. And outside it's beautifully quiet. In the cold air frost glitters, matching the stunning stars above.
When the Aurora Borealis comes, it often starts as a faint wisp like a thin cloud. Other times they ripple down as though a curtain had been dropped. They may appear static, like paint on a canvas. And other times they move and flutter with colors fading in and out. After a few hours under the dancing Arctic sky, this guided aurora tour concludes with a return drive to Fairbanks.
