Overview

Even the shuttle ride from the Denali Park area to this tour's rustic ATV base camp is entertaining. It's a good sign for the fun to come on this 2.5-hour adventure. After arriving, guests meet their local guides, listen to a safety briefing, and get outfitted with goggles and helmets.

The guides demo the simple side-by-side ATVs and, once the guests navigate through a short safety course, lead the group onto the trails. There's a web of rocky tracks winding through the surrounding alders and forests, most rough, rutted, and perfect for ATVs. Drivers splash through muddy tracks and ease over rocks as they climb onto overlooks and cruise through gullies. The group is kept on course by two guides.

Along the way, the tour takes at least two rest stops. Locations depend on the weather and trail conditions, but most stop at a high point for views of the Healy Valley and along a broad creek bed for a chance to explore a bit on foot. The tour wraps up with a return shuttle ride back to the Denali Park area.

The Denali Wilderness ATV tour covers about 10 miles, with about 1.5 hours spent on the trails. Tour goers drive or ride in their own two-person side-by-side with half doors, a windshield, and roof. The listed rate includes both the driver and passenger. There is no discount for one person in a side-by-side, but a single-rider ATV option is available for this trip. Each tour has two guides. Tours operate rain or shine.

What to Bring

All side-by-side ATVs are open vehicles. Riders will be exposed to the elements. Dress in warm layers and wear sturdy close-toed shoes that can get dirty. A rain jacket is highly recommended. Additional raingear is provided as the weather requires. Guests are welcome to bring a small backpack or camera but are responsible for safely carrying these items during the ride.

Special Instructions

This tour is suitable for novice to expert ATV drivers. All drivers must understand English and have a valid driver's license. Minimum age to drive the vehicle is 18 years old or 16 years old with parental approval and valid driver's license (parent must also be on tour).
