Overview

The Denali Wilderness ATV tour begins with a 15-minute shuttle ride to the ATV staging area outside Healy. The shuttle driver is also the trip narrator, telling stories about the area that make the quick drive an interesting one. Tour guides greet their guests when the van arrives at the ATV base camp. After a safety briefing, the group is outfitted with helmets, goggles, and, if the weather calls for it, rain gear.

Ride a network of rocky, weaving trails.

Once everyone goes through an ATV demo and a quick drive through a beginner safety course, it's off to the trails. This network of rocky tracks weaves and crisscrosses through the surrounding forest, climbing onto panoramic overlooks and winding down muddy gullies. Two guides keep the group safely on course, with the one in front setting a comfortable yet exhilarating speed for the chain of ATV drivers behind.

Along this path, the tour slows for two or more brief rest stops to take in the remote backcountry surroundings. Locations depend on the weather and trail conditions, but most get to stop on one of those high overlooks for views of Mt. Healy, Otto Lake, and the surrounding Healy Valley. A second stop takes the group onto a trail-less creek bed as fun to explore by foot as by ATV. The tour concludes with a return shuttle ride back to the Denali park area.

The Denali Wilderness ATV tour covers about 10 miles, with about 1.5 hours spent on the trails. Tour goers drive their own single-passenger four wheeler. The tour is also offered with a side-by-side ATV for a driver and passenger. Each tour has two guides. Tours operate rain or shine.

What to Bring

All ATVs are open vehicles. Riders will be exposed to the elements. Dress in warm layers and wear sturdy close-toed shoes that can get dirty. A rain jacket is highly recommended. Additional raingear is provided as the weather requires. Guests are welcome to bring a small backpack or camera but are responsible for safely carrying these items during the ride.

Special Instructions

This tour is suitable for novice to expert ATV drivers. All drivers must understand English and have a valid driver's license. Minimum age to drive the vehicle is 18 years old or 16 years old with parental approval and valid driver's license (parent must also be on tour).

The tour operator provides complimentary roundtrip transportation from most Denali Park area hotels to the ATV staging area.
