Overview

At the capable hands of knowledgeable river guides, this scenic Nenana rafting trip treats visitors to an entirely new view of the Denali Park area. The raft company has been guiding rafters on the Nenana River since 1976.

Sweeping into a remote stretch of wilderness.

The mild Wilderness Run puts in at the Village River Launch. It is a 10-minute drive from the rafting operator's office. The river is swift but smooth, curling through boulder gardens as it sweeps into a remote stretch of wilderness on the way to the Yanert River confluence.

From here the river runs along cliffsides where, in early summer, visitors sometimes see Dall sheep lambs and their mothers. Twisting west and north again, the Wilderness Run flows into a fun section of splashy but mild Class III rapids before ending just past the Jonesville Bridge in the Denali Park area. The trip concludes with a quick drive back to the raft office.

The tour operator provides guests with Gore-Tex dry suits, neoprene boots, and Coast Guard approved lifejackets. Dry suits fit snuggly around the neck and wrists using neoprene gaskets, keeping the wearer dry on the inside. Suiting up, driving to the put-in location, and driving back to the office takes about an hour. Rafters float 11 miles and spend two hours on the river. No previous rafting experience is required. This scenic float is appropriate for guests age 5 and older.

What to Bring

This scenic float trip operates rain or shine. Dress in warm layers and bring an extra pair of wool socks. Hats, waterproof gloves, lanyards for glasses, and waterproof camera holders can be purchased at the raft office. Anything worn outside the dry suit (hats and gloves) may get wet.

If you have a neoprene or latex allergy please note before booking (dry suits have neoprene gaskets at the neck and wrists and latex feet).

Transfers & Meeting Points

The tour operator provides complimentary transportation from area hotels with advanced notice. After 7:30 AM river trips, a special shuttle runs directly to the depot for guests departing on the 12:30 PM Denali Star train. Free parking is available at the raft office for self-drive guests.
