- Denali Helicopter Heli-Hiking Tour
Overview
This epic heli-hiking experience starts from the heliport base overlooking the Nenana River in the Denali Park area. The small group's destination is a ridgeline east of Denali National Park. As the pilot touches down on the high tundra, the group hops out and moves clear of the helicopter, ducking against the rush of air as it takes off again. What took 10 to 15 minutes by air would have taken a day to reach on foot. There's no one else, no hint of civilization, for miles and miles.
No hint of civilization, for miles and miles.
Led by a naturalist guide with vast experience in the Alaskan backcountry, the group spends the next three hours hiking through this pristine Alaskan wilderness. When the weather is favorable, guests can see Denali towering to the west and the harsh granite peaks of the Hayes Range to the east.
Along the trek, the guide points out the ridgeline's diverse and abundant plant life. Guests get to try edible plants, especially enjoying abundant berries in the later summer. The area is also full of wildlife. The guide has an eye for the resident animals, spotting caribou and maybe even grizzly bears feeding from the lush hillsides. The memorable trip concludes with a return helicopter ride.
