Overview
On this flightseeing excursion, passengers board a floatplane bound for Prince William Sound and take off from the busy Lake Hood Seaplane Base. The plane heads toward green hillsides east of Anchorage that quickly rise to peaks wreathed in snow. The pilot flies a path through this stunning setting, navigating up and over a mountain pass several thousand feet high. The sound lies just beyond.
Deep green-blue water twinkles in the light.
The environment in Prince William Sound is entirely different. It is calm compared to the churning Gulf of Alaska, the landscape protected by three barrier islands. The sound's deep green-blue water twinkles in the light. Mountains forested in Sitka spruce and hemlock rise dramatically from that water, some standing as islands and others chained together into craggy peninsulas. The setting is especially beautiful from the air.
Prince William Sound is also home to a variety of wildlife that passengers may catch a glimpse of on the flight. It could be mountain goats in the higher places, bears on the coasts, or even whales in the still sound water. As weather permits, the pilot may also treat passengers to a smooth landing in a quiet cove. The tour wraps up with a return flight through the sound, over the Chugach Mountains, and back to Anchorage.
