Matanuska Glacier Walk
The Matanuska Glacier Walk is an 8 hour tour including a 2 hour scenic drive north of Anchorage into the Matanuska-Susitna Valley out to Matanuska Glacier. Upon your arrival, you will spend over 2 hours on the glacier with your glacier guide learning how the glacier has formed and shaped the landscape in the Matanuska Susitna Valley. Matanuska Glacier is a stable 27 mile long river of ancient ice. Explore blue meltwater pools, the ice formations and deep crevasses that make up the Matanuska Glacier. Walking on ice is slippery fun, so you will be equipped with a helmet, walking stick and crampons for your shoes. All guests are required to bring sturdy footwear and we suggest bringing an extra pair of socks. Don't be surprised that your shoes get filthy with glacial flour. This tour does require walking for the tour length about 2 hours. The tour will stop at a local lodge overlooking the glacier to enjoy lunch either before or after your glacier walk. The fully-guided transportation includes a pick up at your hotel in Anchorage as well as water and snacks in the touring vehicle. You will arrive back in Anchorage at about 6:00pm.
