- Guided Fly-In Fishing from Anchorage
Overview
This popular fly-in fishing adventure starts at Anchorage's busy Lake Hood Seaplane Base. Aboard a floatplane, passengers listen in on the pilot's spirited narration through two-way headsets as the aircraft takes off from the lake and heads northwest. The flight lasts about half an hour before touching down near the confluence of the silty-grey Yentna River and clear Lake Creek.
Productive waterway is only accessible by boat or plane.
Although there are other fishermen on the river, this productive waterway is only accessible by boat or plane. Guests are taken out on a river boat to their guide's favorite holes and protected eddies. It's a thrill to see how dozens of salmon stack up in these quiet spots to rest on their long journey upstream. It's only more exciting with the first cast and the telltale knock of the line as the hook finds its fish.
After enjoying lunch and refreshments, the charter continues to new spots along the creek. The guide patiently instructs, gives tips on technique, fixes snags, and reties broken lines. This is Alaskan river fishing at its best. The backcountry trip ends with a return flight to Anchorage.
