- Alaska Railroad Aurora Train Anchorage to Fairbanks (Winter)
Overview
After passengers board and settle into comfortable seats on this Aurora Winter route, the train departs Anchorage bound for Fairbanks. The track passes the Knik River and through Wasilla before turning due north into the Susitna Valley. After a brief pause in Talkeetna, the train continues, crossing frozen glacial rivers and Hurricane Gulch bridge. The route draws ever closer to Denali, at one point coming within 40 miles of the summit. The track climbs out of the snowy spruce forest at Broad Pass before pulling into the Denali Depot.
Entering the windswept world of Interior Alaska.
The winter world outside transitions yet again, weaving along steep cliffsides that flank the Nenana River and then into the windswept world of Interior Alaska. Finally, after a full day passing through some of Alaska's most exceptional winter landscapes, the train pulls into the Fairbanks Depot at about 8 PM.
