Fairbanks is the northern terminus of the Alaska Railroad, with 470 miles of track leading south through Anchorage and Talkeetna to the port town of Seward.

During the summer months, the Denali Star train is the primary rail service into and out of Fairbanks. The southbound train departs Fairbanks each morning at 8:15 AM. Stops along the way include Denali National Park and Talkeetna. The southbound Denali Star train arrives in Anchorage at approximately 8:00 PM. A northbound train operates daily on the opposite schedule, departing Anchorage at 8:15 AM and arriving into Fairbanks at 8:00 PM. See our Alaska Railroad schedule for more details.

The Denali Star train includes both Adventure Class and GoldStar Dome service. A third train service option from Fairbanks is the Wilderness Express. These privately-operated dome railcars operate on the same schedule as the Alaska Railroad. They are generally the last two cars on the Denali Star train.

The Fairbanks train depot is located about two miles north of downtown and about six miles from the airport. Some hotels like the River's Edge Resort Cottages and Pike's Waterfront Lodge offer complimentary transportation to and from the train depot. Taxi service and ride share companies like Uber and Lyft are also available.
