Overview
The final four-hour leg of the flagship Denali Star train route departs in the late afternoon from the Denali Depot. Onboard rail hosts greet passengers as they climb aboard and settle into their comfortable assigned seats in either Adventure Class and GoldStar Dome cars. Over the next 122 miles, the route pushes north through the unique scenery of Interior Alaska.
Final leg of the north Denali Star train route.
Soon after departing the depot, the track heads into the Nenana River Gorge. The path snakes around tight corners on a narrow perch above the river rapids below. This exciting stretch of rail makes for many photo opportunities. Early in the summer, passengers may also spot Dall sheep climbing the cliffsides above.
The train exits the gorge at the mining town of Healy. From here, mountains give way to open land and big skies. It's the perfect time to grab a light meal from the Wilderness Café or, for those passengers who worked up an appetite during their Denali adventures, to sit down for a full meal in the dining car. Before reaching Fairbanks, the train crosses the Tanana River on one of the world's longest single-span bridges. It was here in 1923 that President Harding drove the final spike to complete the railroad.

What to Bring
Bring a camera, medications, and government issued photo ID. Bring a credit or debit card for additional onboard purchases (cash not accepted). It is a good idea to dress in layers, since the temperature can vary depending on the weather and the train car's heating and cooling system.

Guest Feedback
"I love riding trains, and this was all that I expected. Even though I was tired and should have slept, the scenery was just too good. I was afraid that I would miss something!"
