How do I get around Alaska?
There are three primary ways to get around Alaska: motorcoach, railroad, and car. Most travelers opt for a combination. If you're looking for specific ways to travel between certain destinations like Anchorage to Denali Park or Anchorage to Seward, take a look at our How to Get From page.
Getting Around Alaska by Motorcoach
The deluxe Park Connection Motorcoach provides "park to park" service, running daily summer transportation between Seward near Kenai Fjords National Park and the Denali National Park area, with stops in Anchorage and Talkeetna. Please visit our Alaska Bus Lines page for more details, including Park Connection schedules and rates.
Getting Around Alaska by Train
The Alaska Railroad runs from Fairbanks to Seward, with depots in Anchorage, Whittier, Talkeetna, and Denali National Park. There are also two privately operated train services, the McKinley Explorer and the Wilderness Express, that provide service between Anchorage and Denali Park or Anchorage and Fairbanks respectively. Check out our Alaska Trains page for more information.
Getting Around Alaska by Car
Although the road system in Alaska is notoriously small given such an expansive state, there are still thousands of scenic miles to explore via rental car. If you want to drive any of Alaska's remote gravel "highways," a 4x4 rental vehicle is the best choice.
A Little Bit of This, a Little Bit of That
Most visitors opt for some combination of two or all three ways to travel in Alaska. Here's our best advice for taking the train and the bus.
