Overview

A solitary gravel road, narrow and winding, enters Denali National Park. On this full-day adventure, guests take to that road aboard a modified bus for an extraordinary backcountry experience unlike any other in Alaska.

Of the many modified school buses taking guests into Denali National Park, Kantishna Wilderness Trails buses are particularly well suited for photographers. They are equipped with large picture windows that slide open sideways to offer big, unimpeded views. Throughout the ride, the driver/guide makes many unplanned stops to observe wildlife or absorb vast mountain vistas. Even planned restroom breaks turn into photo opportunities. At each of these scheduled rest stops there is a new landscape to take in, from the glacial plains at Tolkat, to the spectacular peaks beyond Eielson Visitor Center.

About midday, the bus reaches the Kantishna Roadhouse. At 93 miles into the park, this historic lodge welcomes day trippers for a hearty lunch. After lunch guests are invited to take a short hike along nearby Moose Creek, join a gold panning demo, or simply savor a few quiet moments on the roadhouse deck. The day concludes with a return bus ride.
