Denali Park
Alaska
Denali
Park is home to North America's highest mountain, Mt. McKinley, towering over
20,300 feet tall. The 6 million acre park will also give you one of your best
opportunities to see Alaska's wildlife such as grizzly bear, moose, wolves,
Dall sheep and caribou. Denali Park is located about 240 miles north of Anchorage,
about 5 ½ hours by road or 8 hours by train. The park is open year round,
but the road into Denali Park and most visitor facilities are only open from
mid-May through the third week in September.
Denali Park Lodging
The Denali Park area offers a wide selection of hotels, lodges and cabin properties
just outside the Park entrance, as well as several wilderness lodges deep inside
Denali Park. Alaska Tour & Travel is pleased to offer reservations at every major hotel near the Denali Park entrance area. This allows us to recommend a property that is just right for your travel preferences and budget. The Denali Bluffs Hotel is a good value choice for a mid-sized Denali property. With just over a hundred rooms, the Denali Bluffs Hotel is large enough to have all the amenities you would expect. At the same time it is small enough so you will not get lost in the crowds. The Denali Princess Lodge is one of the nicest hotels in the Denali Park entrance area. It is also the largest hotel in the state and is owned by Princess Cruises so just be prepared to encounter large tour groups throughout your stay. Make sure to plan a minimum of two consecutive
nights in the Denali Park area. Looking for a real Alaskan Adventure? Consider
traveling deep into the Park for a stay at the fabulous Kantishna Roadhouse. Check out our Denali
Hotels page for a complete list.
Please note: Lodging near Denali National Park is already becoming quite limited on many dates. We strongly encourage you to book as soon as possible. Be sure to check out our new Denali Park Lodging page for our current availability.
Denali Park Tours
and Attractions
The 90-mile road into Denali Park has restricted access and private vehicles
are only allowed on the first fourteen miles. You will almost certainly want
to travel further on a narrated bus tour or Park Service shuttle. We highly
recommend the full-day Kantishna
Wilderness Trails bus tour, featuring a superb tour deep into Denali Park
to a true wilderness lodge. Be sure to save some time for other activities like
rafting, helicopter flightseeing,
day hikes, the visitor center, or an evening at a local dinner
theater. See more information on our Denali
Park Tours page.
Denali Park Transportation
People usually reach Denali Park by rental
car, bus line or via the Alaska Railroad. The Park
Connection Alaska bus line offers two trips each day between Anchorage and
Denali Park, with connecting service through to Talkeetna and Seward. The Alaska
Railroad also offers daily summer service to Denali Park from either Anchorage
or Fairbanks. Since a number of great views of Mt. McKinley are available from
the train and bus, we often recommend traveling one direction by rail and the
other by bus. A full list of options is available on our Denali
Transportation page.
