The best Alaska cruises sail between Vancouver and either Seward or Whittier. Most passengers on these routes will fly to or from Anchorage in conjunction with their cruise, though this requires planning for a cruise transfer by either Park Connection Motorcoach, Alaska Railroad, group tour-transfer, or private van.
Seward
Seward is used by Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, Viking, and Celebrity Cruises. The small coastal town is 125 road miles south of Anchorage, or about three hours by motorcoach, four hours by rail, and four to eight by private van or group tour. For more cruise transfer details head to Seward Cruise Transportation.
Whittier
Princess Cruises and Holland America Line use Whittier . Whittier is only about 60 road miles southeast of Anchorage, but it is separated from Alaska's road system by a 2.5-mile tunnel that is shared by alternating one-way auto and railroad traffic. For this reason, it is good to plan a couple of hours for your cruise transfer to Whittier by motorcoach, rail, tour-transfer, or private van. Visit Whittier Cruise Transportation for more details.
